Description:
This workshop explores GenAI's evolving role in science communication. Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly transforming science communication, offering new tools for content creation, audience engagement, and knowledge sharing. Yet, it also raises concerns about accuracy, ethics, environmental impact, and the future of professional science communicators. Drawing from recent studies and reports—including work published on PNAS Nexus and by the National Academies of Sciences—we'll examine how tools like ChatGPT and Copilot are used in science journalism, outreach, and academia.
The session includes an interactive component where attendees evaluate AI-generated science content and discuss strategies for responsible use. Whether you're excited by AI's potential or cautious about its implications, this session offers a research-informed, practical look at what GenAI means for the future of science communication.
